Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the cycle life of a battery, by connecting a plural number of units each consisting of a battery and a power-converting device, which are connected to one another, to a load, subjecting any battery of this system to complete discharge, and making the charge current of this battery to be larger than that of any other battery of the system. CONSTITUTION:A power-converting device consisting of a bridge circuit containing a switching element, for example, an inverter S1 is connected to a battery B1. A load (or a power source which supplys and returns electric power) L is connected to the power-converting device. The former load L is connected to n units each of which consists of a battery and a power-converting device and are connected parallel to each other. Any battery in such a system, for example, the battery B1 is made to have a larger discharge current than any other batteries B2-Bn and is subjected to complete discharge. In charging these batteries of the system, the charge current of the battery B1 is made to be larger than the currents of batteries B2-Bn, and thereby all batteries are made to have the same capacity.
