Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the unevenness of printing density due to variations in resistance value from head to head and conduct a high-quality recording by controlling the voltage impressing time for each head when driving the thermal heads used in a facsimile or the like. CONSTITUTION:In advance to actual recording, with a preset signal PS given, a current flows in a heating element R11, and the resistance value R of the element R11 is indirectly detected through a resistance 33. This detection signal is fed to a multiplier 35 and a divider 36, and a voltage signal proportional to R<2> is inputted to an analog-to-digital converter 37. Then, with a start signal ST for starting the printing operation given, a counter 38 counts down from the digital signal A (fed from the analog-to-digital converter 37) as the starting number, and feeds a carry- out signal to a flip-flop 39 when it counts down to zero. The start signal ST sets the flip-flop 39, and the time period until the carry-out signal is fed becomes the impressing-time and the impressing-time control signal is fed to an an AND gate AN of a driving unit 20.
