Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve the casting yield by performing casting of a metal in such way that the metal is melted by passing a high frequency current through the high- frequency induction winding installed around the metal, and the metal is maintained for a prescribed period at the most suitable temperature for casting, and then the molten metal is brought to the central part by increasing the high-frequency current.
CONSTITUTION: The conductive metal to be melted is contained in crucible 1 under condition where piston 3a is lowered and the lower end of crucible 1 is inserted into crucible receiver 4. Under this condition, a high-frequency current is supplied to high-frequency induction winding 5 installed around the metal, and, when the metal is melted, heat controlling device 10 intermits or reduces the high-frequency current supplied from high-frequency power source 6 in accordance with the detecting signal from radiation thermometer 9, and thus maintains the molten metal at the most suitable temperature for casting for a prescribed period. Then, heat controlling device 10 returns the high-frequency current from high-frequency power source 6 to the melting condition, so that the temperature of melted metal is increased and the metal is brought to the central part. Simultaneously, piston 3a is raised and crucible 1 is released from crucible receiver 4, and then both sides of crucible 1 are opened and the molten metal is casted into mold 7 from sprue 8.
