Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a recording material which permits recording of high contrast and good stability by using a laser beam without accompanying any change in shapes such as holing by forming the recording layer with an amorphous org. pigment compound. CONSTITUTION:An org. pigment compound, for example, a phthalocyanine pigment is used, and a recording layer is formed in its amorphous state. More specifically, a phthalocyanine pigment is vacuum-deposited at about >=1Angstrom /sec filming rate on a substrate 1 of low temp. (preferably below room temp.), whereby a recording layer 3 of about 50-10,000Angstrom film thickness consisting of the amorphous pigment is formed, and this is used as a recording material. When the abovementioned material is irradiated with a laser beam (preferably semiconductor laser beam), the pigment of that part of the recording layer 3 causes thermal transition from amorphous to stabler alpha type (or beta type) and its optical properties change, so that information is written. It is equally well to constitute the recording material by further providing auxiliary layers 2, 4, a protecting layer 5, etc. consisting of metals and inorg. compounds other than the recording layer 3.
