Abstract
PURPOSE:To greatly reduce the time required for printing and conduct gradation recording at a high efficiency by a method wherein pulse-impressing time is changed in accordance with a specified mode by using a thermal printing head incorporating a driving circuit and shift registers. CONSTITUTION:The thermal printing head is used wherein a plurality of heat-generating elements 11 are provided and each of the elements 11 is correspondingly connected with the driving circuit 12 and the shift registers 13. Recording-presence signals (shaded parts in b in the figure) are fed into the shift registers 13 by picture signals fed to an input terminal 17, signals are fed to a gate terminal 19 and corresponding heat-generating elements are caused to generate heat for a length of time t1 required to obtain the density corresponding to gradation level 1. Thereafter, recording presence signals are fed into the shift registers corresponding to all the heat-generating elements relevant to the recording-presence except gradation levels 1, 2...i-1, and the operation of causing the corresponding elements to generate heat for a length of time t1 required to obtain the density corresponding to gradation level i is repeated until the maximum gradation level is reached.
