Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent variations in the output of a semiconductor laser due to changes in the characteristics of the laser by driving the semiconductor laser in such a manner as to eliminate difference between the output and a modulated signal after it is photoelectrically converted with a photodetector and the resultant electrical signal is amplified.
CONSTITUTION: The output of a semiconductor laser 1 is detected with a light detecting device 103 (photo diode or the like) converted into an electrical signal which is amplified with an operation amplifier and outputted. The output is applied to an inversion input terminal of a comparator 100 via an inverter 101 to drive a semiconductor laser 1 in such a manner that it equals a modulated signal to be applied to a noninversion input terminal. If an output of D is to be obtained with an input current of C, any change in the characteristics of the laser, for example, from D1' to D2', can be detected with the light detecting device 103 to vary the input current of the laser 1 to C' with the comparator 100. In this manner, the laser is maintained to provide the output D constantly.
