Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a indicator light of a given color tone, by charging an ionizing gas having emission spectra in both an ultraviolet region and a visible region, and by attaching to the cell wall a phosphor body, which has emission spectra in a visible region of short and intermediate wave lengths. CONSTITUTION:Glass base-plates 401 and 402 each having a discharge electrode 102, are placed facing to each other. An ionizing gas 404 such as Ne which has emission spectra both in an ultraviolet region and in a visible region, is charged in a space partitioned by composed materials 108. After that, the discharge electrodes 102 are coated with both a dielectric body 103 and a heat-resisting substance 105, and a phosphor layer 104 is provided on the entire wall surface except on the electrodes 102. Owing to the above constitution, such colors are mixed as a light 405 discharged from the ionizing gas 404, and a luminescent color 407 generated from the phosphor layer 104 excited with ultraviolet rays produced by electric discharge, and this mixed color is observed as a indicator color 411. The selection of the combination of a gas and a phosphor body enables a selected indicator light to be observed.
