Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the energy efficiency and generate the fluorescent light proportional to the visual sensitivity by coating a mixture of zirconium oxide and a very small amount of rare earth compound on the surface of the substrate of electron discharging electrodes. CONSTITUTION:Electron discharging electrodes 4 are provided on one end 2 and the other end of a fluorescent lamp tube 1. Zirconium oxide and a very small amount of rare earth compound, e.g., cerium-tellurium, bismuth.ytterbium, samarium-yttrium are coated on the surface of electron discharging electrodes 4. In addition, a thin layer of phosphor material coated layer 6 is forme on the wall of a tube 5. The electric current is fed to the sealed electrode 4 through a base 3 to cause discharging, and electrons 8 are emitted so as to hit mercury atoms, thereby visible rays 10 are detected from the phosphor material coated layer 6 by means of then generated ultraviolet rays 9.
