Abstract

PURPOSE:To permit the water leakage estimation which is more accurate than the manner by conventional detectors by providing a heater and a cooler to the by-pass loop of a water leakage detector constituted by connecting both its ends to a sodium main piping so as to form said by-pass loop. CONSTITUTION:In the water leakage detector, sodium for detection is introduced into a branch piping 2 from a sodium main piping 1 in the steam generator system. The branch piping 2 is provided with a heater 14 to heat the sodium led to the detector from the steam generator system to a sufficiently high temperature, e.g., 700 deg.C, and a cooler 15 to lower the temperature of the sodium heated by the heater 14 to the operating temperature of a detecting instrument. When there is water leakage, Na2O and NaOH are generated besides hydrogen, but NaOH cannot be detected by the detecting instrument. Therefore, by heating sodium at high temperature and cooling it thereafter, NaOH is decomposed into a form capable of being detected.
