Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent stress corrosion breakage of stainless steel piping of the primary system of a nuclear reactor connected to a pressure vessel by removing the temperature difference between the upper and lower part of the piping near the joining part.
CONSTITUTION: With a shutter valve 6 closed, the high temperature water in the pressure vessel 4 and the low temperature water in the piping 5 cause temperature difference between the upper and lower part of the piping 5 near the joining part. This temperature difference is detected by temperature sensors 7, 8 and 9 provided on the upper and lower part of the piping 5 and measured by temperature difference detector 10 and 11. The measured results are applied to a controller 12. The controller 12 closes the power source switch 13 to heat the piping 5 with a heater 14 provided externally on the piping 5, thus reducing the temperature difference between the upper and lower part of the piping 5 and preventing excessive temperature difference and stress corrosion breakage of the piping 5.
