Abstract
PURPOSE: To attain a high regeneration rate with high heat efficiency by allowing an aqueous slurry of activated carbon to be reactivated to flow down through a heated tube, forming a solid-gaseous mixture suspending in steam with the carbon dried by the evaporation of water, and introducing the mixture into an activating pipe.
CONSTITUTION: Used powdered activated carbon is converted into an aqueous slurry having 15W35wt% concn. in slurry prepn. tank 2, and the slurry is fed to upper end 4A of drying tube 4 with pump 3. Jacket 5 is attached to the outside of tube 4, and exhaust gas after activation is passed through jacket 5 to heat the interior of tube 4. The slurry flows down through tube 4 and is simultaneously agitated with agitator 6. Before it reaches lower end 4B, water is evaporated, and a solid-gaseous mixture suspending in steam is formed with the dried carbon. This mixture is introduced into activating pipe 7 and heated to 700W900°C with burners 9AWD, whereby the adsorbed matter is desorbed and thermally decomposed, and the carbon is reactivated with steam. The retention time in pipe 7 is adjusted to 1W10sec. The reactivated carbon is separated from the steam in separation vessel 11 and recovered.
