Abstract
PURPOSE: To obviate the interruption of welding and prevent the formation of any welding defect of the beginning and terminal ends of welding at the parted portion by hollowing the portion of the obstruction on the way of the weld line facing the weld line and taking over the welding from one of the torches on both sides of the obstruction to the other.
CONSTITUTION: Electric current is supplied to a torch 6a and the left end 8 of the weld line 3 is begun to be welded by its arc. At the same time, a carriage 7 is begun to be run to the right and when the torch 6a reaches the parting part 9 below a partition wall 4, the limit switch LS2 of the carriage 7 goes ON to stop the carriage 7. At this same instand, a torch 6b generates arc to start welding. At this time, the arc of the torch 6b overlaps the molten pool in the torch 6a beyond the welding take-over hole 5 at the parted part 9, thus the welding is begun to be taken over. At the time when this taking-over becomes sufficient, the carriage 10 begins to travel to the right and while the torch 6b is performing welding on the weld line 3 from the parted part 9, it reaches its right end 13. Here, a switch LS4 goes ON to stop the carriage 10 and welding of the torch 6b.
