Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent welding failure from occurring due to irregular arc starting of a non-consumable electrode type multiple electrode arc welding by starting the arc with lower starting current than welding current and increasing the welding current after completing the arc start of all the electrodes.
CONSTITUTION: Starting current is set sufficiently lower than welding current to start arc at all the torches of multiple electrode arc welding. When an arc start detector detects that all the arcs start, it switches the output current setting to ordinal welding current. Even if there is difference among the arc starting of the respective torches, the arc is started with low starting current until all the torches start their arc. Accordingly, materials to be welded may not melt during this period to thereby prevent welding failure from occurring.
