Abstract

PURPOSE: To extinguish arc and prevent the burn of a consumable electrode by actuating a comparator to turn a relay ON and open its normally closed contacts when arc voltage becomes reference voltage or more thereby eliminating the output of a DC electric power source.
CONSTITUTION: When the output switching circuit 19 of a welding machine 17 is turned ON in the case of performing arc welding using a consumable electrode, particularly MIG welding of Al fine wire, a DC electric power source 18 outputs to apply voltage between the consumable electrode 5 and the work 6 to be welded. At the same time, the electrode is fed in the work direction and contacts the same, causing arc to be generated. At this same instant, normally open contacts 10 close to actuate only when arc is generated. Now, if it is assumed that the arc voltage becomes reference voltage or more while welding is being done at the reference voltage lower than the burn threshold voltage complying with welding procedure conditions, the comparator 9 actuates and the relay 11 on its output side goes ON. As a result of this, the normally closed contacts 20 provided to the circuit 19 become open and no more output is emitted from the DC electric power source 18, due to which the arc extinguishes and the electrode 5 does not cause any burn.
