Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent scale formation and thereby to stably produce a polymer of desired quality for a long time, by detecting the liquid level in a specified chamber mounted on or over the top of a polymerization vessel and by means of this signal regulating the amount of the reaction suspension to be discharged from the vessel.
CONSTITUTION: The following countermeasure is further taken in titled polymerization process wherein treatment to prevent scale formation (for example, coating of a polymer deposition-preventing agent over the inner surfaces of a polymerization vessel or addition of the agent to the starting polymerization materials) is made. That is, on or over the top of a polymerization vessel is mounted a chamber 5 connected with the vessel. The chamber 5 is filled with an inert solvent such as water, and the remaining upper space is pressurized with an inert gas to prevent flowing of the polymer suspension from the vessel into the chamber. The valve 4 of the vessel 2 is regulated by means of a signal obtained by detecting the liquid level in the chamber 5 so that the amount of the polymer suspension to be discharged is controlled to maintain the liquid level in the chamber 5 at a predetermined level. In this way, the state of stable polymerization can be maintained by the duration of full state of the vessel 2 and the prevention of abnormal increase in vessel pressure.
