Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable to read in inverted character without deteriorating the read efficiency, by storing a detection character pattern which is obtained by scanning a character line, and reading out, inverting discriminating and inputted this stored pattern. CONSTITUTION:An analog signal which has been input to the quantizing circuit 7 through the cable from the scanner 6 is coverted to a signal of 1/10, and is input to the detection circuit 8. The circit 8 decides that a character pattern is entirely observed in the observation range of the scanner 6, and detects a projection in the height direction and the character width direction of the pattern. The discrimination pretreatment circuit 9 executes a character cut-out processing of the the observation pattern and the projection information, adds the sampling processing, infomrs it to the read control circuit 12, and operates the discriminating circuit 10. The circuit 10 reads out the contents of the dictionary circuit 11, computes a similarity to the input pattern, and transfers the similarity of each comparison pattern to the circuit 12. The circuit 12 stores a category of a pattern which has provided the maximum similarity, it is provided to the circuit 10 through the up-and-down inversional output line 13, and the same processing is executed. The justness is appreciated from the similarity values of both a forward turn and a reverse turn, and one of them is selected and output.
