Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce a large amount of extra low sulfur steel inexpensively and stably without powder blowing into molten steel by adding a synthetic slag making agent such as CaO-SiO2 having a m.p. below prescribed m.p. at a prescribed amount to the molten steel during desulfurization of the molten steel tapped from a converter to a ladle.
CONSTITUTION: After limestone is added to the molten steel which is being tapped from a converter to a ladle. Upon ending of the tapping after this, Al is added to modify the ladle slag to high desulfurization ability slag. Thence, this slag and the molten steel are strongly stirred and mixed by blowing an Ar gas thereto in an oxidation-free atmosphere of ≤1% O2 concn., whereby the steel is desulfurized. Here, only in the case when the rate of outflow of the converter slag from the converter to the ladle is ≤5kg per ton of steel, the next synthetic resin is added at 1W5kg per ton of the steel at the tapping or right after the end of the tapping. As a result, a high desulfurization rate of ≥70% is stably obtained. The synthetic slagging agent of CaO-SiO2 base (40W60%, CaO, 40W60%; SiO2) of ≤1,550°C m.p. is used for said slagging agent. The concn. of S in the resultant extra low sulfur steel is ≤0.0009%.
