Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to rapidly, simply, accurately and continuously measure substance which is able to be oxidized and existing in water, etc., by injecting a solution, which contains reducing substance, into a pipe in which an oxidizing-agent-containing solution flows, and by measuring product of reaction. CONSTITUTION:In measurement of substances which are ablt to be oxidized and existing in water, etc., a water solution 1 containing oxidizing agent such as chromate, permanganate or halogen-containing organic oxidizing agent, etc. is sent into a small-diameter reaction tube 4, which is made of corrosion resistant material, such as teflon, etc. and has a diameter of 0.5mm. and a length of 10m, at a constant flow speed by using a plunger pump 2. A prescribed amount of specimen water solution is injected by a sample injector 3 at halfway to the pipe 4. Reactant, produced in the reaction pipe 4 by oxidation of the substances contained in the specimen, is detected directly or inderectly through measurement of density of residual oxidizing agent or measurement of product of reaction, etc., by a spectrophotometer, etc., and a result is shown by a recording meter 6. It is also possible to conduct a continuous measurement of more than 100 times per hour.
