Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a low-cost battery that permits guick charge by employing an electrochromic substance as an active material of the battery; this electrochromic substnace changes color when electric energy is supplied from outside sources. CONSTITUTION:A negative-electrode can 1 is packed with a negative active material 2, while a positive-electrode can 6 is packed with a positive active material 5. An electrolytic film 4 which hold back and electrolyte is placed on the positive active material 5. The opening between the can 1 and the can 6 is hermetically sealed by laying a packing 3 between them, and the whole constitutes a secondary battery. The active material of such a battery is an electrochromic substance lie WO3, MoO3, TiO2, an oxide of a rare earth element and a pyrogen bromide that changes color when electric energy is supplied from outsude power sources. For example, the positive active material 5 is noncrystalline WO3 with the addition of 5% of carbon powder, while the negative active materials 2 are chemically-processed pellets of the same material as the material 5. (These pellets have changed in color from light yellowish-white to dark blue after the chemical treatment.)
