CONSTITUTION:A negative-electrode can is accurately filled with zinc before puring in that an electrolyte in which a required amount of zinc-oxide is dispersed, obviating the mixing of zinc powder and zinc-oxide powder. A negative-electrode can which is prepared in this way and a positive-electrode can which is packed with a positive composite are hermetically sealed by laying a gasket between them, and the whole constitutes a secondary battery. The process of paking a negative-electrode can with negative active materials is divided into two steps of filling the can with zinc and, after that, pouring an electrolyte in which zinc-oxide is dispersed: this makes it possible to minimize battery expansion during overcharging and to increase the resistance to overcharge.
