Abstract
PURPOSE: To keep turbine efficiency good in a wide range, by providing a scroll which is appropriate to the flow rate of exhaust gas when the flow rate is small and the pulse is large and by providing a scroll of large cross-sectional area which is appropriate to the flow rate when the flow rate is high and the exhaust gas flows almost stationarily.
CONSTITUTION: The first scrolls 13a, 13b, which are divided from each other by a partition wall 11 so that exhaust gas of small flow rate which is supplied from the pipes of two cylinder groups can be conducted to the first nozzle 12 as the gas remains separated, are provided in the turbine casing 5 of a supercharger 4. The second scroll 15 is provided in the turbine casing 5 to conduct some of the exhaust gas to the second nozzle 14 when the flow rate of the gas is large. The circumferential opening angles α, β of the first and the second nozzles 12, 14 are set as α+β= 360+γ where γ shows the circumferential angle of a section where the nozzles 12, 14 communicate with each other. A change-over valve 7 is installed at the connection of a gas introducing section with the second scroll 15 so that the valve 7 is regulated by a control unit 17.
