Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A 4-isothiazolin-3-one-1,1-dioxide derivative of formula I (R are each methyl or isopropyl).
EXAMPLE: 2-(2',6'-Dimethylphenyl)-4-isothiazolin-3-one-1,1-dioxide.
USE: A plant blight controlling agent. An agent for agricultural and horticultural use. Effective to rice blast, downy mildew of cucumber, etc.
PROCESS: The compound of formula I is prepared, e.g. by (1) halogenating the carboxylic acid OH group of 3,3'-dithiodipropionic acid with thionyl chloride, etc., (2) reacting the resulting 3,3'-dithiodipropionic acid dichloride with a 2,6-dialkyl- aniline to afford a compound of formula II, (3) reacting the compound with a halogenating agent to obtain 2-(2',6'-dialkylphenyl)-4-isothiazolin-3-one of formula III, and (4) treating the product with an oxidizing agent.
