EXAMPLE: 5-Fluoro-2'-methyl-chlorosalicylanilide.
USE: An antimicrobial agent. Especially having strong antimicrobial action on fungi. Characteristically having F at 5-position and an alkyl group at 2'-position.
PROCESS: 5-Fluorosalicylic acid is condensed with a 4-halogeno, 2-alkylaniline in the presence of a tertiary amine (e.g., pyridine, N-dimethylaniline, etc.) using a condensation agent of thionyl chloride, to give a compound shown by the formula. This method provides better yield and purity than other methods.
