Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a piston for internal combustion engines provided with a hollow part having no residual part in the hollow part after completion with simple and rapid work by directly setting a soluble core to a metal mold without using any supporting pins.
CONSTITUTION: A soluble core 4 consisting of salt or the like forming the hollow part 3 of the above-described piston 1 is supported by the supporting part 9a at the end of the bar part 9 of a piston molding metal mold. Next, cast metal is poured through the sprue of the piston molding metal mold not shown, and after the casting, the piston molding mold is removed. Thence, a solvent which dissolves the core 4 (e.g., water) is poured through the communication path 8 formed by removing the bar part 9, whereby the core 4 is dissolved and is discharged to the outside through the path 8. As a result, a piston 1 for internal combustion engines having no residues in the hollow part 3 is obtained.
