Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable high-density recording by improving the utilization efficiency of light and reliability, by arranging an information storage magnetic medium on a transparent thin magnetic film closely or in contact with an interposing film which transmits light of the 1st specific wavelength and reflects light of the 2nd specific wavelength. CONSTITUTION:While magnetic head 27 applies magnetic layer 22 with a magnetic field which is constant or variable in both intensity and direction, the surface of magnetic layer 22 is irradiated with laser light 29 via condenser lens 28. Since thin magnetic film 23 and multilayer film 25 transmit light of specific wavelength lambda1, the light of irradiation is used efficiently to heat magnetic layer 2. On the other hand, information thus recorded on magnetic layer 22 is transferred to thin magnetic film 23. A magnetized pattern formed on thin magnetic film 23 can be read out with laser beam 29 of specific wavelength lambda2 by making use of the Faraday effect, and at this time, multilayer film 25 serves as a reflex mirror high in reflection factor for readout light 29.
