Abstract
PURPOSE:To permit a high output oscillation which cannot be obtained by an Nd:YAG laser by a method wherein a Gd3Ga5O12 single crystal containing Nd within a specified concentration range is excited, with the electric input to the exciting lamp increased to above a specified value. CONSTITUTION:A Gd3Ga5O12 single crystal rod containing 0.8-3.5at.% Nd is used as an oscillating element 2 for a solid-state laser head. When said element 2 is driven by an exciting lamp 1, an electric input 2.5 times as much as the minimum input value needed for the head to generate the laser oscillation is applied to the lamp 1. Thereby, it is possible to obtain a higher output than that of an Nd:YAG laser.
