Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce deterioration of waveform of received optical signal by performing control so that the amplitude of leading edge of drive signal may be lower for a certain amount of time as compared with the peak value. CONSTITUTION:The leading edge of drive current supplied from a drive circuit 2 to a semiconductor laser 1 is changed in steps or slantwise to allow it to be controlled low at least for a certain amount of time as compared with the peak value of drive current. Thus, the first peak value of relaxation drive is made to be low and relaxation oscillation is restricted. It allows the fluctuation of emission spectrum to be small and influence of wavelength dispersion of optical fiber to be small, thus resulting in less deterioration of waveform of received optical signal.
