Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the titled composition having decreased surface defect phenomenon, having excellent gloss, and suitable as a raw material of telephone equipment, by compounding a polyphenylene with a rubber-modified styrene resin derived from specific rubber elastomer and a monovinyl aromatic monomer.
CONSTITUTION: The objective composition is prepared by compounding (A) 20W 80wt% of a polyphenylene ether of formula I (R1WR4 are ≤3C alkyl; Q1WQ4 are H or 1W3C alkyl; m and n are 0 or integers) with (B) 80W20wt% of a polymerized rubber-modified styrene resin composed of 85W99pts.wt. of a monovinyl aromatic monomer and 1W15pts.wt. of a rubber elastomer. The rubber elastomer is the one containing 10W25mol% of 1,2-vinyl bond, 25W45mol% of 1,4-cis bond, and 30W65mol% of 1,4-trans bond, having a solution viscosity of 30W60cs, the particle diameter of the soft component of 0.1W1.0μ which is composed of the polymerized monomer and the elastomer and dispersed in the resin, and the R value of 0.5<R< 5.0 defined by the formula II (g1 is content of insoluble matter after heating; g2 is content of insoluble matter; r is wt% of the elastomer).
