Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled resin having improved impact resistance industrially and advantageously, by the mass (suspension) polymerization of a mixture of a specific polybutadiene rubber with styrene.
CONSTITUTION: The mass or mass suspension radical polymerization of an isomeric mixture of (A) 2W25pts.wt. polybutadiene with a 1,2-structure content of 4W20%, a cis-1,4-structure content of 78W96% and a trans-1,4- structure content ≤ 2% having an intrinsic viscosity[η]of 0.5W5 (measured in toluene at 30°C) with (B) 75W98pts.wt. styrene is carried out. The component (A) is obtained by polymerizing 1,3-butadiene in the presence of a catalyst obtained from a Co compound, e.g. cobalt octoate, a halogen-containing organoaluminum compound, e.g. (C2H5)2AlCl, and a polyhydric alcohol, e.g. ethylene glycol.
