Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a liquid-crystal display element which has superior transparency without coloring and an inconspicuous nesa pattern, by forming a liquid- crystal orientation film by using a specific hydrazide copolymer. CONSTITUTION:A dibasic acid hydrazide compound (A) (e.g., dihydrazide phthalate) shown by the formula (where R is an aromatic compound or aliphatic compound) and tetracarboxylic dianhydride (B) (e.g., pyromellitic dianhydride) are stirred in an organic solvent at about 10 deg.C for several hours to be condensed, forming a copolymer. Next, the obtained polymer solution is diluted to a concentration of about 5-10wt% and applied to an electrode substrate, and a heat treatment is carried out at about 150-300 deg.C to remove the solvent; after a film of the polymer is formed by closing the ring, the orientation film is obtained by rubbing.
