Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable the hermetic sealing of Kovar alloy preventing foaming under vacuum at high temperature, by heat-treating a ZnO-B2O3-SiO2-Al2O3 glass of specific composition under specific conditions.
CONSTITUTION: A composition composed of 25W38wt% of ZnO, 15W30wt% of B2O3, 5W20wt% of SiO2, 1W20wt% of Al2O3, 8W12wt% of BaO, 0W2wt% of SnO2, and 2.5W5.0wt% of the sum of MgO, CaO and/or SrO. The composition is prepared by melting a mixture of the specified amounts of the raw materials at high temperature. A molded article prepared from the fine powder of the composition is brought into close contact with the part to be sealed and made of Fe-Ni-Co alloy (Kovar alloy), and heated at 800W1,000°C for ≤30min. The glass melts, wets the alloy (the part to be sealed) well, and crystallizes. Since the composition has a thermal expansion coefficient of 47W65×10-7°C-1 (50W350°C), it has high compatibility with Kovar alloy.
