Abstract
PURPOSE: A unit for occluding hydrogen being handled readily, capable of discharging and occluding hydrogen efficiently, obtained by making a massive body of thermally conductive porous material support a metal hydride, followed by covering the massive body with a filter.
CONSTITUTION: A porous massive body is produced using a thermally conductive material, e.g., metal, ceramic, plastic, etc. by sintering to make it porous, or by expansion molding to make a porous body. The massive body is put in fine powder of a metal hydride, e.g., lanthanum-nickel hydride, magnesium-copper hydride, etc., and the cells of the porous material are filled with the fine powder by vibrating them, or by flowing the fine powder in a pressurized hydrogen current. The massive body is covered with a filter with meshes smaller than the particle diameter of the metal hydride, to give the titled unit for occluding hydrogen.
