Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve precision of distance measurement an interrogator on a plane, by enabling the interrogator to vary its transmitted power by discriminating whether its measured distance data has got a predetermined distance or not. CONSTITUTION:As the interrogator on an airplane measures the distance to a ground transponder continuously, the distance data is obtained by distance discriminating circuit 2 at any time. If the airplane gets close to a ground station, output signal (c) discriminated by distance descriminating circuit 2 is sent to RF driver circuit 1-1 of transmitted power amplifying circuit 1 and according to signal (c), RF output (a) is changed from RF waveform A to A'. Therefore, output (b) or (bb) of power amplifying circuit changes from RF waveform B to BB or waveform B' or BB'. Namely, the operation is performed within the range of linear amplification characteristics of power amplifying circuit 1-2, the waveform never deforms by a saturation phenomenon and the transmission output waveform is kept to optimum. Thus, precision of the distance measurement is improved.
