Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a flexible cable which does not affect optical fibers and has superior hermetic characteristics by using a soft polyurethane resin as a resin for gas dams and coating nylon having adhesive power to this on each of the constituting element of a cable core.
CONSTITUTION: A cable core 1 consists in twisting the optical fiber cores 13, interstitial cores 14 and feeders 15, these being respectively coated with nylon, on the outside circumference of a tension member 11 with nylon coating 12 and winding force-winding tapes 16 thereon. A gas dam part 2 consists in removing the tapes 16 of the core 1 for a predetermined length to expose the nylon layer 12 of the tension member 11 and the nylon-coatings of the respective fibers 13W15 and packing a polyurethane resin 21 of 0W5 Shore A hardness in the space between the tension member 11 and the sheaths 3 of the fibers 13W15. These enable harmetic performance to be improved, prevent the transmission losses of the optical fiber cores from increasing and nevertheless enable the laying direction to be selected freely despite the presence of the gas dam parts.
