Abstract

PURPOSE: To let stable transmission characteristics be obtained by housing an optical fiber code in the square barrel made by two sheets of tapes which are formed in U-form in cross section and applying high-tensile-strength wires and sheath on the outside circumference of said barrel.
CONSTITUTION: There is a reinforcing fiber layer 2 on the outside circumference of an optical fiber 1 and the outer side thereof is plastic coated 3, whereby an optical fiber code 4 is constituted. The code 4 is enclosed by the tapes 5, 6 which are folded in U-form and a plurality of high-tensile strength wires 7 are disposed on the outside circumference thereof. Further a tape winding layer 8 is wound on the outer side thereof and sheath 9 is applied. With such constitution, the code 4 is difficult to receive side pressure and therefore stable transmission characteristics are obtained without causing any change in transmission loss owing to microbending.
