Abstract
PURPOSE: To facilitate mass-production and to prevent a stress from being concentrated upon an optical fiber by arranging a high tension wire between an inner sheath accommodating an optical fiber and an outer sheath and by specifying the thermal shrinkage of the two sheathes.
CONSTITUTION: An optical fiber 1 coated with a protecting coating 2 of polyamide resin, which is wound helically with a shock absorbing material 3 such as wool string, which is further coated by extrusion with an inner sheath 4. A high tension wire 5 such as aromatic polyamide resin fibers acting as a tension member is arranged outside of the sheath 4, which is further coated by extrusion with an outer sheath 6. In order to obviate slackness in the wire 5 due to thermal shrinkage of the sheath 6, the coefficient of thermal shrinkage of the sheath 6 is made lower than that of the sheath 4.
