Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain characteristics of good wavelength separability with simple constitution by additionally providing the optical films having the characteristics allowing the transmission of only the specified light waves at the respective incident end faces of the other fibers which branch and propagate the light waves divided by the optical film face of the end face of an incident side optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:When the light waves of wavelengths lambda1, lambda2 are propagated in an optical fiber OF1 on incident side, the light wave of lambda1 is reflected and separated by an optical film 4 and goes toward an optical film 12 provided to the end face of an OF2. This film 12 lets the other wavelength components reflected by leaking together with the lambda1 light wave reflect and attenuate and allows only the lambda1 light wave to transmit, thus propagating the same to the OF2. On the other hand, the light wave of lambda2 transmits through the optical film, 4 then goes toward the optical film 11 provided to the end face of an OF3. This film 11 lets the other wavelength components transmitted by leaking together with the lambda2 light wave reflect and attenuate and allows only the lambda2 light wave to transmit, thus propagating the same to the OF3. In this way, the light waves may be branched with good separability by the double optical films provided with the specified optical characteristics.
