Abstract
PURPOSE:To control branching, coupling, etc. of light with good coupling efficiency with a simple constitution by changing the propagation constants of the light waves of optical fibers by the mutual action of light waves and ultrasonic waves. CONSTITUTION:A pair of main and sub optical fibers 21, 22 are disposed in extreme proximity within a range of a coupling length L, to form the coupling part 23 in which light waves are well transmitted by solid or liquid of large refractive index and ultrasonic waves are difficult to transmit.
