Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain an electrically insulating composition for cable having excellent resistance against water tree formation, by a method in which an ethylene-propylene-diene copolymer of a high ethylene content as a base material is mixed with butyl rubber or polyisoprene rubber and then the mixture is crosslinked by an organic peroxide.
CONSTITUTION: One hundred pts.wt. ethylene-propylene copolymer or an ethylene- propylene-diene ternary copolymer (A), having an ethylene/propylene polymerization ratio of 70:30W90:10, is mixed with 1W7pts.wt. organic peroxide (B), e.g., dicumyl peroxide, etc., and 5W40pts.wt. butyl rubber or polyisobutylene rubber (C) of a molecular weight of 20,000W200,000, preferably 50,000W160,000, to obtain an objective composition.
USE: The composition is mainly used in electric power cables.
