Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an electrically insulating composition for cable having excellent resistance against water tree formation, by a method in which an ethylene-acrylic elastomer is added to an ethylene-propylene-diene copolymer having a high ethylene content as a base material, and then the mixture is subjected to crosslinking process using an organic peroxide.
CONSTITUTION: One hundred pts.wt. ethylene-propylene copolymer or etylene- propylene-diene ternary copolymer (A), having an ethylene/propylene polymerization ratio of 70:30W90:10, is mixed with 1W7pts.wt. organic peroxide (B), e.g., dicumyl peroxide, etc., and 10W40pts.wt. ethylene-acrylic elastomer (C) obtained by connecting a bridged site monomer, e.g., maleic acid derivatives, with ethylene- methyl acrylate polymer skeleton containing 30W50wt% methyl acrylate component to obtain an objective composition.
USE: The composition is mainly used in electric power cables.
