Abstract

PURPOSE:To impart excellent corrosion resistance to a material used in an atmosphere of corrosive gas and liquid, by subjecting the surface of the substrate to the combined treatment of melt-spraying and glass lining. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a substrate 1 such as the blade, etc. of an air compressor is melt-sprayed with metal, alloy, or ceramic excellent in corrosion resistance to form corrosion-preventive melt-sprayed layer 2. The surfac of the melt-sprayed layer 2 is lined with glass, hereby pores formed in the surface of the melt-sprayed layer 2 are sealed with glass components to form a composite layer between the glass lining layer 3 and the melt-sprayed layer 2. This method allows to prevent the intrusion of corrosive components of the substrate. Said method is applied in a wide range from low temp. to high temp. equal to nearly the softening point of glass.
