Abstract

PURPOSE: To treat the titled exhaust gas without requiring desulfurizing equipment by adjusting the amount of limestone powder blended in starting materials for sintering and allowing unslagged lime in a region of a sintering zone to capture and fix SOx.
CONSTITUTION: Blended starting material 1 for sintering consisting of fine iron ore, 8W20wt% limestone powder, coke breeze and a little water is charged into the pallet and fired with firing furnace 3. Sintering progresses while leaving wet unsintered zone 6 at the lower part in the early stage of firing, burning zone 7 and sintering zone 8 and slowly extended, and sintering is completed at the right end of the pallet. Unslagged lime (free lime) remains in sintered ore 8 in the form of quick lime even after passing through zone 7. Accordingly, exhaust gas of high SOx concn. from latter half part VIWIX of wind boxes 4 is fed through hood 10 to allow unslagged lime in 800W1,000°C region 9 of zone 8 to capture and fix SOx. Thus, the SOx content of exhaust gas exhausted from first half part IWV of boxes 4 into chimney 5 is reduced to ≤20%, resulting in ≥80% desulfurizing rate due to sintered ore 8.
