Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the starting performance and stability of the arc by so controlling the gaseous atmosphere of an electric discharge gap as to be air at the arc starting, and argon gas after the starting, in the case of performing AC tungsten inert gas arc welding.
CONSTITUTION: Electric discharge gap electrodes 13a, 13b are opposedly installed on an insulator 14. The electrode 13a is of a circular cylindrical shape into which air and argon gas are fed through an insulating tube 15 and it is so arranged that the supplying and stopping of the air and the argon gas are controlled by a gas valve 16 which is operated by the detection signal of welding arc current. By constituting the device in this way, the air sent at the arc starting and the argon gas is sent after the starting, whereby the high-voltage high-frequency voltage is halved.
