Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide heat ray reflecting glass with high heat ray reflecting performance and superior endurance by coating the surface of a glass plate with a silver coat and further coating it with an Ni coat to combine the advantages of silver and Ni.
CONSTITUTION: A 10W1,000Å thick permeable silver coat is formed on the surface of a glass substrate, and on the silver coat a 10W1,000Å thick permeable Ni coat is formed to obtain the desired heat ray reflecting glass. The glass is manufactured as follows: the substrate surface is purified, sensitized, activated, and brought into contact with a silver plating bath to deposit the silver coat. The silver coated surface is then brought into contact with an Ni plating bath and chemically reduced to deposit the Ni coat. An ammoniacal silver salt soln. is most generally used as the silver plating bath, and the soln. is prepared by adding an alkali compound such as an ammonia soln. as a complex ion forming agent to a water soluble silver salt such as silver nitrate. Nickel chloride or the like is used as the Ni salt.
