Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare iron-based yellow pigment powder having excellent heat resistance and weatherresistance, bright shade, and high dispersibility, by calcining a mixture of acicular crystal particles of hydrous ferric oxide and ZnO.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture of (A) 47W53mol% (as Fe2O3) of acicular crystal particles of hydrous ferric oxide wherein the average dimension of the long axis is 0.4W1.5 (pref. 0.7W1) μm and the ratio of the standard deviation to the average dimension of the long axis is 25 (pref. 20)%, and (B) 53W47mol% of ZnO, is calcined at 800W950°C, and the resulting compositie oxide composed of Fe and Zn is crushed to powder wherein the average particle diameter is 0.1W0.5μm and the ratio of the standard deviation to the average of the particle diameter is ≤22%.
