Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled clear yellow pigment powder which has a specified average particle diameter and excellent pigment dispersibility, by a method wherein an iron oxide powder having a specified average particle diameter is mixed with ZnO, and the mixt. is calcined and crushed.
CONSTITUTION: 53W47mol% ZnO is mixed with 47W53mol% (calculated as x= 1.5 in FeOx) iron oxide powder having the formula FeOx (where 1.33≤x≤1.5) and an average particle diameter of 0.07W0.4μm and in which the ratio of standard error to the average value of the particle diameter is 25% or below. The mixt. is calcined in the temp. range of 800W950°C to obtain a compound oxide composed of Fe and Zn. Then the oxide is crushed and sized to a powder having an average particle diameter of 0.1W0.5μm and in which the ratio of standard error to the average value of the particle diameter is 22% or below, wereby the titled pigment powder is obtd. In this way, there can be obtd. the pigment powder which is not reddish, but clear yellow and can easily be dispersed in the production of a paint.
