Abstract

PURPOSE: To control particle diameters, particle size distribution, and bulk density of polymer latex instantly, and to solidify the polymer latex economically, by feeding the emulsion polymerization latex through a feed opening of a nozzle to a space equipped between the feed opening and the liquid level of a solidifying agent.
CONSTITUTION: Copolymer latex obtained by emulsion polymerization of acrylonitrile, methyl mathacrylate, styrene and/or α-methylstyrene, etc. is fed from the nozzle 1 and a solidifying agent, e.g., hydrochloric acid, etc. is fed from the nozzle 2 to the solidifying bath 3 having a stirring machine 7. The slurry separated out by solidification and agglomerated is discharged from the discharge part 4 to the baths 5 and 6. The particles are fed to the stirring solidifying baths I and III equipped with the stirring machines 8 and 9, and the particles are heat-treated in the bath II at not higher than the softening point of the resin and in the bath III at not lower a said temperature, to give the desired solidifed polymer latex.
