Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a polymer having a specific particle diameter and uniform particle shape, by forming a monomeric droplet group layer in the upper part of a reactor, and taking out an aqueous dispersing medium from the bottom of the reactor, circulating the aqueous medium through the upper part of the reactor, polymerizing the droplet groups, and changing over the circulation to the stirring after the increase in the specific gravity of the droplets to complete the polymerization.
CONSTITUTION: Droplet groups of a polymerizable substance having a uniform droplet diameter and a lower specific gravity than an aqueous dispersing medium are formed in a droplet forming apparatus 8, and then introduced from a droplet introductory pipe 8 into a reactor 1 containing the aqueous dispersing medium to form droplet group layer on the upper part of the reactor 1. The aqueous dispersing medium is then taken out of a taking outlet 4 at the bottom of the reactor 1, and circulated through the reactor 1 while feeding the aqueous dispersing medium continuously to the individual droplet surfaces of the droplet groups through a line 6. Thus, the polymerization is carried out while preventing the coalescence and disintegration of the droplets. At the increased specific gravity of the droplets, the circulation of the aqueous dispersing medium is changed over to the driving of agitating blades 2 to complete the polymerization and give the aimed polymer having a uniform average particle diameter of 0.3W 3.0mm.
