Abstract

PURPOSE: To efficiently apply a necking process to a can drum without the use of lubricant, by applying a drawing work while impressing an ultrasonic vibration on the part to be tapered and necked, when a necking process is applied to the can drum.
CONSTITUTION: The open and end 2a of a can drum 2 is inserted into the cylindrical inner surface 6a of the stationary die 6. Then, the mandrel 5 and the drawing die 4 simultaneously move leftward, and hereby, the top edge of the open end 2a of the can drum 2 is drawn by the taper 7a of the ring die 7; as a result, a specified load is loaded on the bearing shaft 10, the switching circuit 19 is put ON, and the ultrasonic horn 9a impresses an ultrasonic vibration on the open end 2a at its part contacting with the taper 7a of the ring die 7. Next, only the drawing die 4 moves leftward into a specified distance, and the taper 2b is finished. It is desirable that the output of ultrasonic vibration is kept at a high level at an early stage of the necking process, and after which, the output is kept at a low level to finish the neck.
