Abstract

PURPOSE: Titled composition having excellent crack propagation resistance and abrasion resistance and being suitably used in tire sidewalls and treads, prepared by compounding a fresh rubber with a reclaimed rubber having a specific Mooney viscosity.
CONSTITUTION: To 100pts.wt. of vulcanized rubber powder is added 5W20pts.wt. of a reclaiming agent selected from aromatic, paraffinic and naphthenic oils having a b.p. higher than 300°C and a MW of 400W1,000. The mixture is heat-treated at 180W250°C for 0.5W4hr in air or steam, and then mechanically masticated to obtain a reclaimed rubber having a Mooney viscosity [ML1+4(100°C)] of 65W125. One to forty (1W40)pts.wt. of the reclaimed rubber is compounded with 100pts.wt. of a fresh rubber containing a natural rubber and/or a synthetic rubber, such as natural rubber or styrene-butadiene rubber.
